This appliance was the second ALP purchased by Strathclyde Fire Brigade and was originally allocated to Cowcaddens, but has since been transferred. Strathclyde Fire & Rescue's Mark II Aerial Rescue Pumps are based on a Scania P310 6x2 chassis with John Dennis Coachworks body and are fitted with Vema 282ARP booms, with a working height of 28.5 metres. The appliance also has a 1,500 litre water tank, a 125 litre foam tank and is fitted with a modified Godiva pump. In addition, the appliance carries 542 different pieces of equipment ranging from rescue gear to full fire fighting kit. These machines cost £386,755 each and when fully laden weigh 22.5 tons. It is one of 12 Scania P270D Rescue Pumps with John Denis Coachworks body. These were the first Rescue Pumps to feature “battenburg” markings. The Forward Control Units are used at all incidents involving 4 or more appliances and are fitted with a satellite broadband link interfacing with the VDMS (Vehicle Mounted Data System) and interactive Smart board. There are two compartments in the vehicle, one for communications and the other for Command. A video camera is fitted, mounted on a 6 metre mast at the rear of the vehicle. Always a very sad event, here we see a Buckinghamshire appliance at the funeral of one of the brigade firefighters. The funeral was taking place in Cardiff and one assumes that this was the home city of the deceased. The appliance which was H345 FBW, a 1990 Volvo FL6-17:Mountain Range WrL which was virtually brand new looks very smart decorated with a lovely selection of wreaths.
